Libya’s Fuel Crisis: Why Are Libyans Still Waiting in Line?
Libya’s fuel crisis highlights one of the country’s biggest economic paradoxes: despite holding Africa’s largest proven crude oil reserves, Libyans still spend hours in queues to fill their cars, while the country relies heavily on imported fuel.
The problem raises a basic question: how can an oil-rich country struggle to meet its own domestic fuel needs?
To explore that question beyond official statements and statistics, we went to fuel stations and spoke directly with Libyans waiting in line. We asked them why they believe the shortages persist, how the crisis affects their daily lives, and what they think should be done to fix it.
