Air Algerie Resumes Flights to Tripoli After 12 Years

Air Algérie has resumed direct flights between Algiers and Tripoli, restoring air links between Algeria and Libya after a 12-year suspension. The Algerian national carrier restarted the route on Wednesday, October 28, with two weekly return flights planned between the two capitals.

The first flight arrived at Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli, where Libyan and Algerian officials attended a ceremony to mark the return of the service.

The airline plans to operate flights every Wednesday and Friday. The route gives passengers a direct connection between the neighboring countries and adds another option for people travelling for business, family visits and tourism.

Flights aim to strengthen trade and business ties

Libya’s ambassador to Algeria, Saleh Hamma, welcomed the resumption and said the route would help strengthen relations between the two countries. He also highlighted its potential to support travel, trade and economic cooperation.

The direct connection could make it easier for businesses and professionals to travel between Libya and Algeria. Better air links can also support commercial exchanges by reducing the need for passengers to connect through other countries.

Libya works to restore international air links

Air Algérie’s return comes as Libya seeks to improve international aviation connections. The country’s air transport sector has faced years of disruption following the conflict that began in 2014, which led many international airlines to suspend services.

On October 26, Libya’s Transport Ministry announced that the International Civil Aviation Organization had lifted restrictions on Libyan airspace that had been in place since 2015. The decision could help improve international connectivity, although the return of more airlines will depend on their operational and safety assessments.

The resumption of the Algiers to Tripoli route marks a step towards rebuilding Libya’s international connections. Regular services will provide a direct link between the two capitals and create more opportunities for travel and business cooperation.
