Libya and Bosnia Move to Expand Political and Economic Cooperation

Libya and Bosnia and Herzegovina have discussed plans to strengthen diplomatic relations and expand economic cooperation, as both countries seek to develop closer bilateral ties.

Libya’s Acting Foreign Minister, Taher Al-Baour, met Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Acting Secretary-General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Adin Dilberović, in Tripoli on November 2.

The meeting focused on opportunities to expand cooperation in political and economic affairs. Both sides also discussed issues of mutual interest and the importance of maintaining regular diplomatic communication.

According to a statement from Libya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting also included Bosnia and Herzegovina’s ambassador to Libya, Senad Mašović, and several Libyan officials.

Joint Committee Meetings Planned for 2027

The two countries agreed on the importance of convening their joint committee early in 2027 and working towards an agreement on political consultations.

The proposed agreement would provide a framework for more regular discussions between the two foreign ministries and closer coordination on bilateral and international issues. Economic cooperation also featured prominently in the discussions. Both sides expressed interest in expanding commercial relations and identifying areas where closer cooperation could benefit their respective economies.

The talks form part of broader efforts to strengthen Libya’s international partnerships and develop economic relationships beyond its traditional regional partners.

However, the next step will be to translate diplomatic discussions into concrete agreements, business opportunities and practical cooperation.

The meeting signals renewed interest in Libya-Bosnia relations, with the planned joint committee offering an opportunity to move the relationship forward.
